Bath Junkie: Some Kind of Wonderful

June 12, 2009 – 4:48 pm
If you're a product junkie, this is your new favorite store. If you're not a product junkie, you very soon will be. Founded by a mother/daughter duo years ago, Bath Junkie is the ultimate beauty experience. They sell everything from exfoliating salt scrub to dish soap, all in a scent of your choosing. That's right, the super-helpful staff helps you mix your very own concoction. With over 200 fragrances, you could (gladly) spend hours in the store. Even cooler, once you find your signature scent, anything and everything can be made to smell like it. One woman, they told me, cleans her dishes with soap that smells like Chanel No. 5! The best part is it's all natural. Sensitive skin, rejoice!--CARRIE HENDERSON

Cheap and Chic Lipgloss by Sally Hansen

June 12, 2009 – 4:48 pm
In addition to being, to reiterate the title, cheap AND chic, Sally Hansen Natural Beauty inspired by Carmindy lipglosses taste SUPER DELISH and ultra-shiny! My favorite flavor--er, shade--is Pinkberry. Buy it for $8 (a tiny, tiny dab goes a long way, so it lasts for ages) at a drugstore near you!

Color Real: Creating Nailpolish with CND!

June 12, 2009 – 4:48 pm
I recently visited the Creative Nail Design Studios, where as little as two weeks before fashion week, color-mixing masters receive designers' Inspirations. From there they create custom nail colors, textures and finishes for the runway. For fall, the biggest trends are light shimmery blues and pinks that kept an edge with just a hint of black. Also, be on the lookout for lovely dove grays (as seen at Karen Walker), and velvety, matte finishes. You can play with the look yourself before these colors hit the stores by mixing your own blend! Kristina Baune of CND recommends starting with a bottle of creamy white polish, and dripping in whatever colors you want to mix. The CND line is actually designed for custom mixing and experimenting, so now all you creative girlies can have your very own, custom, signature color! Recipe for Karen Walker Dove Gray:2/3 Bottle of CND Cream Puff24 Drops ...

Model Skin: Josie Maran’s Kit

June 12, 2009 – 4:48 pm
I'll admit it. When I heard that model Josie Maran was coming out with her own makeup and skincare line, I was initially skeptical--ANOTHER model with her own makeup line... Seriously? I ate my words soon enough, though, after I tried her products. They are seriously quite scrumptious--I'm a BIG fan of her Argan Oil in particular. Also, be sure to take a look at her Earth Day Kit. It contains Josie's lip gloss, cream blush, eyeliner, and mascara, AND a deluxe sample of Argan Oil--all in their fullsizes--for $48 (retail value is $98). Check it out at Sephora stores, I bet you'll be a convert too!

Sneak Peek

June 12, 2009 – 4:48 pm
After my toes took a serious beating on the city sidewalks, I went to Urban Outfitters in search of Bensimon sneakers. As luck would have it, I located them on sale in my color and size, and yet couldn't bring myself to buy them. The last time I truly enjoyed wearing tennis shoes was way back in elementary school when I had Keds in every color, and I realized I'm just not comfortable waltzing around in sneakers—no matter how comfortable they may be.Despite feeling a bit defeated, I limped over to Ralph Lauren Rugby to take a peek at the seersucker and summery madras. Instead of falling victim to another striped skirt that I don't need, I caught sight of RL's version of TOMS and instantly knew I had found the gold at the end of the rainbow. Fuchsia silk with skulls, as comfortable as slippers, and for a noble ...

"I Hope They Get It Right, I Hope We Dance Tonight."

June 12, 2009 – 4:48 pm
I went to see Blind Pilot, the band that got me through one of the toughest finals week of college, at the Bowery Ballroom tonight. I was feeling particularly festive, since the sun finally decided to come out to play and the concert was bound to be fun, so I decided to give my Tracy Feith for Target frock a go for a proper New York City debut. After having a few Marilyn moments this afternoon, I wised up and added my embroidered Anna Sui slip—click the pic for a better look—underneath to prevent further wind-induced embarrassment. Those sweet little sandals? Super cute Payless shoes that would be perfect for a weekend in East Hampton. If only.

City Mouse

June 12, 2009 – 4:48 pm
Marc Jacobs mouse flats have been on my mind since I first spotted Mischa Barton wearing them way back in her OC days, and like Adam Brody, I never really got over them. What's been holding me back all these years is that I could never quite find a color combination that inspired me to splurge. Black is versatile, but not when you have a wardrobe of navy and brown. White is gorgeous, but not when you'd rather walk two miles than drive two minutes. And as for the colorful jellies, well let's just say I couldn't stand wearing jellies when I was 5 and they cost $5, and I can't imagine that the comfort level has improved with a Marc by Marc logo stamped on the sole.Except now, I have no excuse because the latest edition brings together brown and black in the most charming wear-every-day kind of way. I ...
