Primark gets a conscience

July 1, 2008 – 12:33 pm

primark.jpgIn a recent BBC Panorama snoop into the sweat shops and child labour in India, Primark were publicly named as a stockist of child labour products. In a public turn-around, Primark has announced that it is halting all dealings with four factories that previously did some of the beadwork which appears on some of the Primark pieces.

Although this is said to only make up 0.04% of their total goods, Primark have endeavoured to prevent any further ‘improper dealings’ by placing their own ‘man-on-the-ground’ in India to ensure that all further dealings are with factories that pass all the right laws and do not abuse child labour. Hoorah.
