Royal Ascot – the ‘class’ of 2008

July 3, 2008 – 8:38 pm

queen-at-ascot.jpgWith the Royal Ascot in full swing, everyone’s talking about the latest school-governor-strict dress codes that have been put in place to effectively keep out the rif raf this year.

Following certain outfits which led to ‘knickers being on show, boobs falling out and general unruly behaviour’, it has been realised that the only way to prevent it becoming Chavscot is to place a bouncer at the door turning away improperly dressed ladies.

Apart from ‘only formal day dress with a hat or substantial fascinator‘ being acceptable, ladies are prohibited to sport strapless or thin-strapped dresses, short hem-lines, bare legs (stockings, darling) and streaky tans. So basically the more you look like the Queen, the better chance you will have of getting allowed in.

These rules apply specifically to those who are to enter the royal enclosure, who may gain entry through sponsorship with a member of more than four years. I trully can’t wait to see what Ladies’ Day turns out.

Which leads to three thoughts:

A – Is the whole affair becoming too prudish for current day?

B – Or is it preserving a rare English cultural event?

and C – Does anyone even go for the horse racing anymore?
